Stephen Steen MSc, FIBMS, CHS (ABHI) –  Microbiologist

Stephen Steen Stephen has two Fellowships of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (Bacteriology and Virology), is Board Certified as a Histocompatability        Specialist with the American Board of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ABHI), holds a Masters Degree in Pathological Sciences with an Immunology speciality, and has both an HNC in Biomedical Sciences (Medical Microbiology elective) and an HND in Animal Welfare and Management. He studied at John Moores University, Liverpool and The University of California, San Francisco. He is involved in on-site teaching of undergraduate students and the development of treatment strategies with our clients.

     trevorTrevor Whitbread BSc. BVSc. MRCVS DipECVP

After graduating, worked in mixed practice in Leicester before returning to Liverpool as a lecturer in the Department of Veterinary Pathology.  Gained experience in general diagnostic clinical pathology and histopathology before choosing to specialise in histopathology and cytology.  Trevor has a special interest in dermatopathology and is a Diplomate of the European College of Pathologists.

Malcolm Silkstone BVSc DipACVP MRCVS – Assistant Pathologist

Malcolm SilkstoneAfter qualifying in South Africa, a period of post-graduate pathology training was followed by three years in general practice in the UK. Since that time Malcolm has obtained extensive diagnostic pathology experience, culminating in gaining American Board Diplomate status. He has specialist interests in oncology, dermatopathology and infectious diseases.


Judith Hargreaves MVB MRCVS FRCPath – Assistant Pathologist

Judith HargreavesQualified in Dublin, then spent three years in mixed practice. Since the mid 1980s Judith has obtained extensive experience in pathology and is MRCPath qualified with specialist interests in oncology and oral and upper respiratory tract pathology. She has recently acquired FRCPath status.


Sonja Rivers BVetMed MSc. DipACVP MRCVS – Assistant Pathologist

Sonja Rivers
Graduated from the RVC, London then spent four years in mixed practice, followed by post-graduate pathology training, obtaining an MSc, also from the RVC. This was followed by completion of a Residency in the University of Illinois’ Zoological Pathology Programme, culminating in gaining a Diploma of the American Board of Veterinary Pathologists.



Lucy Oldroyd BSc. BVMS DipACVP MACVS MRCVS – Assistant Pathologist

Lucy OldroydA graduate from Murdoch University, Western Australia, Lucy spent eighteen months in mixed practice, returning to Murdoch University to complete a pathology internship. She became, by examination, a Member of the Pathobiology chapter of Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. Lucy moved to the UK to join Abbey Vet Services in 1995, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2005.
